Purpose of Position

Oversee, direct, coordinate and execute procurement activities for goods and services, including supplier sourcing and selection, communication with the supply base, management of supplier relations and support/resolution of all commercial and technical matters of behalf of internal (or external) client.

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Create requests for proposal (RFPs), evaluate analyze bids both commercially and technically, negotiate and award purchase agreements and orders.
  2. Maintain detailed knowledge about the equipment, materials, and supplies used in the industry, and the companies that sell them. Stay well-informed about the economic and market conditions that affect the prices of goods and services typically used in their industry.
  3. Evaluate new and existing suppliers and subcontractors. Verify that supplier performance was satisfactorily and provide feedback both internally and externally.
  4. Implement buying techniques and practices that will insure budgets and schedules are met or improved.
  5. Ensures that purchased goods and services are delivered as promised. Expedite and monitor the progress of all orders.
  6. Travel both domestically and internationally (if required) to meet with vendors and visit the facilities where their products are manufactured. Maintain and distribute detailed reports documenting each trip.
  7. Prepare detailed monthly progress and status report to keep all stakeholders informed as the status of all RFPs, orders and as well as a summary of relevant current market conditions.
  8. Continually develop and maintain critical both internal stakeholder and supplier relationships.
  9. Maintain detailed knowledge of all import and export control regulations and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Education: BS Engineering Degree or equivalent job related experience
  • Years of experience: 8+ years in procurement; 5+ years in technical or engineering related field, experience in the power and construction industry preferred; some experience and knowledge in the other functions of project material management.
  • Skills: Strong interpersonal, project management, analytical and problem solving skills with ability to interface on multiple levels of business and projects. Ability to negotiate and assess damages where appropriate. SAP and Microsoft Office Suite of Products preferred. Power industry experience is preferred with specific knowledge of gas/steam turbines, utility boilers and air quality control systems. Experience working for, or with, a Japanese owned company preferred.
  • Abilities: Must be able to make critical decisions, self direct and accept responsibility.
